when you don't need us. OK, so you're thinking, "If I don't need you, why should I talk to you?" Simple, when you don't need us, you have time, you have time to look for the job you want, and you have time to develop a relationship with the recruiter (from either the client or candidate perspective). There is no rush to find a/any job! There is no rush to get things done. You both have the 'luxury' of time to discuss culture, needs, fit etc. Bottom line: Time.
Time is important for this process, it becomes easier to deal with someone you know you can trust. You are not trying to see if there are ulterior motives! You're not trying to figure an angle. You have a relationship. The search process and the success of it, will only help to strengthen the relationship. Also, you will have gotten the 'first date' jitters out of the way and are well on to the next steps. Negotiations have been done, everything is pre-arranged, all that needs to be done is finding the person/job and closing the deal. It's as easy and as difficult as that.
Because, let's face it, recruiters are viewed by many as a necessary evil (kind of like lawyers or dentists) unless you absolutely have to, you don't want to deal with us, but having a relationship with one is always a good idea, because you never know.
