“Apple’s announcement today that it has lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines has direct implications for Adobe’s Packager for iPhone, a feature in the Flash Professional CS5 authoring tool,” Adobe said in a post to the company blog. “We will now resume development work on this feature for future releases.”
Adobe, you’ll remember, bitterly abandoned development of that tool back in April in response to Apple’s then new developer agreement, which really left it no other choice. Now that Apple’s lifted the injunction against cross-platform compilers it has one and so its circling back. Welcome news for Flash developers, though as Adobe notes, Apple’s new stance on tools like Flash Packager hasn’t changed the fate of Flash itself on iOS devices. Said Adobe, “We do want to point out that Apple’s restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place.”
